The Respite Care Connection offers fee-for-service respite for families caring for children with challenging behaviours to assist in maintaining them in their families and communities. Families are provided with a break from the challenges of parenting while children participate in community-based activities or stay overnight in a family-based setting.
Enviros arranges for supervised activities in the community that are fun, creative and flexible. McMann Youth, Family and Community Services provides foster families to provide family based overnight care. Families are able to contact the specific program that they are interested in receiving services to go through the screening and intake process.
The Respite Care Connections contacts either Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) or Children's Services to confirm respite funding is in place. The respite coordinator then meets with the family in their home to set up a plan.
The community based aspect of the Respite Care Connection focuses on small group outings for children who would often have difficulty in these settings. With adequate supervision and training, staff are able to provide a positive outing for the children and offer parents/caregivers a break from parenting.
