New ERA works with troubled youth who display a wide variety of behaviours. A six-bed facility, New ERA receives youth with behavioural difficulties as well as mental health concerns.

New ERA is on the frontline in addressing the needs and future placements of youth who are deemed high risk under Calgary and Area Child and Family Services Authority. The most desirable outcome is to reconnect the young people with their families, but the primary goal of New ERA is to keep the young people safe while their needs are addressed. The staff collaborates with therapists, schools, probation officers, social works, and family members to provide the most therapeutic continuum of care possible.

After leaving the program, placement options include foster care, institutionalized care, supported independent living or a young person may be returned to his/her biological family with continuing in-home support.

During their time in the New ERA program, young people address problem solving, conflict resolution, life skills, trust, and relationship building plus they have opportunities to learn practical skills. New ERA's wilderness and urban components are designed to enhance confidence and self- esteem while teaching the fundamentals of trust, respect and relationship building.
