Foster Care Support Worker
Summer Student Position

Enviros is a charitable, non-profit community committed to enhancing the quality of family life in Alberta.  We engage children, youth, adults and families in experientially based opportunities so they learn and develop skills that foster independence.  Enviros addresses a broad range of societal needs ranging from programs for young offenders; family support services, foster care, and helping young adults become successfully independent.  Enviros opens minds as well as doors, promoting social responsibility through personal action, interaction and accountability.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, energetic summer student to join our Enviros Foster Care Team. This program provides 63 foster care placements to Calgary and Area Child and Family Services.  The program works with foster families and foster children to ensure a positive and healthy experience for everyone when a child/youth is in the Enviros Foster Care Program.

Candidates will have knowledge of working with children who have been exposed to problems in their families, be able to work well in a teaching and supportive role with adults, and have experience with the children’s services field. Duties will include: Case-aid (comprising summary of outcomes and doing some comparison),  Supporting foster parents in implementing tasks to aid children in obtaining their developmental milestones.

You must be able to work independently as well as be a member of the staff team.  This position requires strong communication, organizational and writing skills.   Current First Aid, CPR, Criminal Record including vulnerable sector search and Alberta Intervention Record check clearances are a requirement prior to commencement. A working knowledge of Alberta Child Protection legislation is an asset.

To be eligible, students must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act2; and,
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
