Lodge Keeper

Part time (up to 30 hrs/week)

In partnership with Children’s Services Indigenous Services Office (IS), Mahmawi-atoskiwin works alongside children and their families to create a Family Wellness Team.  Our goals are:

  • Connecting families with Indigenous culture and ceremonies
  • Families live successfully in the community
  • Children in care reunite quickly with family
  • Parents have an increased ability to protect their children and meet their needs
  • Families exit the CS system quicker, with fewer families returning


Mahmawi-atoskiwin staff engage families to address concerns that brought their involvement with Children’s Services. Lodge Keepers are essential to the team, with roles including but not limited to:

  • Providing transportation to and from family visits when children/youth are in care
  • Supporting visits between children in care and their parents through hands-on teaching, mentoring and coaching parents, as far as possible supporting visits to move into the community
  • Provide crisis intervention, safety planning and advocacy to families when required
  • Schedule and coordinate visits with all parties; provide updates regarding any changes
  • Record all communication with children, youth and families and other professionals
  • Some resourcing and basic needs support
  • Connect families with ceremony and traditional ways of meeting needs


What we’re looking for:

  • Degree, diploma or certificate in the human services preferred or a related qualification with experience
  • Cultural intelligence, flexibility, strong interpersonal, communication (verbal & written) and time management skills
  • Knowledge of attachment, the impact of trauma on families, an understanding of normal child development
  • An ability to provide hands-on, in the moment coaching, mentoring and teaching with families
  • Clear security clearances
  • Use of a reliable vehicle with $2,000,000 liability, permission to carry passengers and business coverage on the vehicle
  • Valid driver’s license and a driver’s abstract with minimal demerits
  • Current First Aid and CPR
