ConneXions Respite Care Connection

Bringing youth together to connect and build friendships!

ConneXions is a specialized program for youth with complex needs. This group specializes in strengthening self-esteem, skill development and socialization skills. This is facilitated in a fun, safe environment with a ratio of one staff to three youth. All staff are trained in safety, risk management, emotional regulation strategies and Standard First Aid/ CPR. Youth participating need to be involved with FSCD (Family Supports for Children with Disabilities), Children’s Services or Post Adoptive Supports.

Each day is filled with various activities including field trips, games, and crafts. This may include biking, geocaching, disc golf, scavenger hunts, hot dog roasts, and activities in outdoor green spaces across the city. We will also use recreation venues such as swimming, Heritage Park, the zoo, Telus Spark, etc.

Youth are asked to leave money, cell phones, electronics, and toys at home so as not to impede with building peer relationships. Youth should have eaten a late breakfast or early lunch before they come to group unless otherwise specified. However, they are encouraged to bring a healthy snack and water bottle.
