The Program – Respite Care Connection

The Respite Care Connection promotes, strengthens, and preserves the right for children with developmental disabilities to have a permanent home.  The program works toward this goal by providing caregivers of the children and youth with respite to give them time to take care of themselves and their other children. The Respite Care Connection is a community-based program for children and youth aged 6-17 years.

The Position- Day Camp Counselor (Child and Youth Worker)

The Day Camp Counselor in the Respite Care Connection program will participate in and supervise recreational activities for children and adolescents with developmental disabilities. Clients have diagnoses such as ADHD, FASD and ASD and the program focuses on strengthening self-esteem, skill development and socialization skills. This is facilitated in a fun, structured and safe environment with a ratio of one staff to three youth. This position is Monday to Friday 8:30-4:30. There is an opportunity to continue employment after the summer.

The successful applicant will have the following qualifications:

  • A current criminal record check including vulnerable sector
  • A current Alberta Intervention Record check
  • Current First Aid and CPR ‘C’
  • Have a valid Class 5 or license and clean driving record
  • Have a vehicle in good condition that can be used for work
  • Experience working with children with developmental disabilities is an asset

To be eligible, individuals must:

  • be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • have some training or experience in the field;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and,
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Job type: Full time (Overtime might be required based on the program needs)

Pay: $18-$22
